My absolute favourite season is spring, closely followed by summer. I love that it’s such a hopeful season; new growth, lighter days and daffodils.

It can also be a scary time for some of us following the winter months of comfort eating and wearing cosy clothes that often include an elasticated waistband. When the weather starts to get warmer it’s more difficult to hide under those forgiving layers.

For someone like me, who is not a fan of the winter – I definitely suffer with SAD – these last few months have been particularly tough. The only bonus is that we haven’t had any snow (yet!). The wonderful people I work with know that I’m not perfect. Far from it! But I’m able to ‘forgive’ myself and draw a line under any healthy eating misdemeanours.

Onwards and forwards is my motto.

Don’t compound it

Just because we’ve had a few days, a few weeks, a few months, a few years of not looking after ourselves as well as we could/should, doesn’t mean that all is lost. We are not ‘failures’ – we are human. To err is human!

We CAN get it back. We CAN lose weight again.

It’s a bit like riding a bike. Just get back on it!

However tempting it is to keep on keeping on with the unhealthy eating – we need to draw a line under it and not compound it further.

Change the way you shop to start with. We are ‘hard wired’ when we walk into a supermarket. We shop blindly sometimes. Automatic pilot grocery shopping! If you find yourselves drawn to the bread and bakery section and popping the delights in your trolley then either change your supermarket (they all have different layouts) or start to shop on line. It makes a difference – trust me!

Don’t be defined by what has gone before

Our fears sometimes let us fail. FACT!

“I can’t do this again, I’m too embarrassed to see people because they will know I’ve put weight on, I’ve tried SO many ways to lose weight, I bet this won’t work either, I’ve let myself down etc etc .“

I’ve had all of the above fears over the years. I get it, I really do. We need to change our mindset.

And I can help you do it. Forget about being on a diet. Tell yourself that you want to lose weight in a healthy way, and learn new habits, for good. Diet is a very dirty word!

I will leave you with the following thoughts:

YOU are totally in charge of what you eat and drink

YOU are perfectly imperfect

YOU matter

YOUR long-term health matters

YOU will succeed

YOU matter to me
